TikTok appears to be taking a cue from Snapchat, now testing streaks in direct messages for some users.

The platform confirmed it is playing around with streaks to select users in limited markets, according to TechCrunch.

The streak badge, akin to Snapchat, will appear if you exchange DMs with another user for three days or more. Streaks will then pop up next to that person's name in your message tab. TikTok is also sending notifications to users to keep up their streaks, which will end if a response isn't exchanged within 24 hours.

Some users have posted about the feature on X, formally Twitter – and most seem confused about why exactly they're being introduced.

The point of streaks, we assume, is to keep engagement going, and perhaps introduce a more interactive element for TikTok users during their endless scroll on the app.

TikTok is also reportedly in the midst of testing hour-long video uploads, signalling a walk in YouTube territory, too.
